I humble myself in writing these words, and I believe this is insight from God and not myself. Yet I expectantly wait for His correction is I have something wrong.
In Romans 12, the body of Christ is unpacked as follows:
4-6 In this way we are like the various parts of a human body. Each part gets its meaning from the body as a whole, not the other way around. The body we’re talking about is Christ’s body of chosen people. Each of us finds our meaning and function as a part of his body. But as a chopped-off finger or cut-off toe we wouldn’t amount to much, would we? So since we find ourselves fashioned into all these excellently formed and marvellously functioning parts in Christ’s body, let’s just go ahead and be what we were made to be, without enviously or pridefully comparing ourselves with each other, or trying to be something we aren’t.
The Body of Christ
The scripture is clear that we are all a part of one body in Him. During the past couple of weeks, I have been reminded of the part I have to play. There is a deep sense of urgency trickling through me that reminds me that the time is near and there is so much to do!
I am reminded that it is my job to mobilise the body.
As I analyse my strengths and passions, I am reminded that I am a natural strategist – God has given me insight and the ability to sense what will work where and implement the change.
Whether that is a part of the muscular system or nervous system is very unclear! I don’t believe it really matters, but it is amazing to consider the sheer complexity of the body!
A mentioned something in passing the other day that astounded and reminded me of this very concept.
As we brainstormed options to volunteer with/on a ship – A mentioned that my strengths are very different from what I perceive them to be. He feels my organisational skills (along with the heaps of experience I have in travel) is of far greater value on a ship than any teaching- or alternate skill I could develop.
The whole conversation reminded me of the passion I have for organisational development. Which is the analysis and implementation of strategies on a large scale?
A Corporate View of Strategists
Mckinsey unpacks and rethinks a strategists’ roles as follows, based on a survey of 350 senior strategists:
Have a look at the descriptions that pop out…
- Performance challenger
- Mobilizer
- Strategic-capacity builder
- Visionary
- Innovator
- Portfolio Optimizer
- Decision-process facilitator
- Trend forecaster
These are all words that I could easily use to describe me!
My Own Struggles with My Body
Perhaps unpacking my struggles with my body is not a far-fetched idea! If my position in the body of Christ is to assist in the implementation of God’s strategy – then I need a pretty good understanding of the efficient functioning of a body.
My body, as a start!
By understanding my role, I am able to apply my focus accurately! If I really understood my function in the body of Christ, wouldn’t it drive me to achieve my personal weight loss goals all the more?
It is pretty exciting, to be honest!
I thank you, High God – You are breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvellously made! I worship You in adoration – what a creation! – Ps 139:14
I had this post written and published in a private post. Playing with my personality and strengths seemed arrogant at first, but the more I think about it, the more I realise it is me curiously asking my Father to tell me more about my design and function.
There’s an element of excitement, that somehow by asking Him to reveal His purpose with my existence, He tells me so much more about Him as the Father. On the other hand, how much better would the body be functions, if we all went to the trouble of finding out our function and trying to apply it in our lives!
