October has been a stressful month.
God has a sense of humour — it is like the past has come back to haunt me and am left to regain newly acquired focus in the midst of a nightmare. It sounds dramatic, even thought I don’t mean for it to be.
My mind says it is a catastrophe, my heart is trying to leading me to a place of trust.
Highlights of our month
It is very wrong to speak in vague circles, so I will cut to the chase. Amidst all the stresses of life, I have so much to be grateful for. Here are some of the things we have been up to during the month of October
Swadini, A Forever Resort
We went away for a couple of night during the school holidays at the beginning of the month. We stayed at the Forever Resort Swadini close to the Blyde River Canyon in Mpumalanga. Gosh it is beautiful and even though the water levels were much lower than it should be, it is well worth the visit!

We stayed in a well equipped and air-conditioned self catering unit. The resort offers camping facilities and because we love camping we had a look at the camp site. The camp sites are paved, massive trees overhead. The ablution block are neat and tidy.
The resort offers some lovely trails – the Waterfall trail seemed to be particularly popular and ends will a refreshing pool and waterfall.

It is a celebration of health and healing and life. And at the same time, it is a reminder of those who still fighting and keeping them in our hearts and prayers.

I wrote a number of posts in October. It feels good to be writing. I write every of my life, but drafting an email with instructions or guidelines is very different from penning my thoughts on paper. I’ve opened up here and there. It’s a stepping stone…
- New legislation relating to parents who default on their child maintenance payments
- Penned my October goals and shared a free printable
- Celebrating Oliver’s fourth birthday
- Explained the different Capoeira kicks
- Logan’s third term rapport that was both a shocker and an accomplishment – all in one
- Barbie’s new advert that inspired me
- Reflections about where I am and where I should be going
- A letter to my boys with lessons from a film called Maleficent
Goals and doings in October
My goal this month was to relax, sleep and walk. I relaxed, I slept, I didn’t walk as much as I wanted to. But I did a lot of stretching and Pilates classes. One of our Capoeira classes were cancelled due to the university strikes and this past week has been grading for the other students. Eating habits should have been better, but the scale has been kind to me, all things considered.
What I should have done more…
Walking, especially under the blooming Jacaranda trees. I love the Jacarandas! This year I seem to have missed them and that makes me sad. Hopefully we will have another couple of weeks worth of budding flowers and in these weeks I will make a point of appreciating and noticing their lush purpliness!
